Biography
Dr. Garner earned his Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Oklahoma in 2024. During his graduate studies, he taught courses in microbiology and was a recipient of the 2022 Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences Dissertation Research Fellowship.
His primary research focus deals with the ecology and physiology of methane oxidizing bacteria as well as the isolation and taxonomic characterization of novel bacteria. Other academic interests include microbial biotechnology, bioremediation, general microbial ecology, and science education.
Microorganisms are key divers in global nutrient cycling, our ability to sustain modern infrastructure, and they are critical to human health and societal function. Dr. Garner considers the study of microorganisms as essential to fostering innovation in an ever-changing world.
Fun Fact and Hobbies:
I love spending time with my wife and daughter. I am an avid supporter of University of Oklahoma athletics, especially football and softball, and Manchester United.
